Mayday 2010 Plymouth TUC will run an extended programme of events over the 2010 Mayday period. We will kick off with a remembrance event at 5.30pm on Wednesday 28th April - Workers Memorial Day, when we remember those workers from all over the world, who have been killed in 'accidents at work' or by occupational diseases or because of their Trades Union activities. For us this Workers Memorial Day is all the more poignant - on 29th April 2009, the day after the last Workers Memorial Day, a Unite member who was working at the Arjo Wiggins paper mill at Ivybridge, was tragically killed after being trapped in a papermaking machine. The point of Workers Memorial Day is to remember the dead and to fight for the living! On Mayday - International Workers' Day, Saturday May 1st we will hold a march around the city centre, followed by an afternoon rally in the Roland Lewinski Building from 2 - 5pm On Saturday May 8th we will hold a May Fayre, on the themes of Trades Unions for a Sustainable Future and Justice for All, from 11am to 5pm in the Plymouth Guildhall - we may also promote an evening gig. Watch here for more information.
